Community Egg Hunt / Búsqueda de los Huevos @ Athmar Park Branch Library

Join Girl Scouts of Colorado for a non-denominational egg hunt on Saturday, April 13th! Families of all faiths and identities are welcome. Search Athmar Park Branch Library’s Community Room with your girl for plastic eggs in every hiding spot that contain candy and a fact about Girl Scouts from 10 A.M to 11 A.M, then learn more about the Girl Scout leadership experience as your girls enjoy spring-themed activities from 11 A.M to 11:30 A.M. This event is designed for girls in grades K, 1, 2, and girls currently in PreK and entering Kindergarten in Fall 2019, but all girls in grades PreK-12 and their families are welcome.

As a Girl Scout, your girl will practice leadership with grit like a go-getter, problem solve like an innovator, embrace challenges like a risk-taker, and show empathy like a leader—in an all-girl, girl-led, and girl-friendly environment where she can work together with her peers to discover, connect, and take action.

Event will take place on Saturday, April 13th from 10 A.M. – 11:30 A.M. at Athmar Park Branch Library in the Community Room located at 1055 S Tejon St, Denver, CO 80223.

GSCO Photo Challenge: Brownies away from home

In 2018, our Girl Scouts attended the Brownie Camporee at Tomahawk Ranch. They were between 7 and 8-years-old, and for nearly all the girls, it was their first time away from home. Not only did they earn their “Girl Scout Way” and “Potter” badges, they also completed the “Wonders of Water” Journey by assisting with planting a garden at Tomahawk. They had a wonderful time!

These Girl Scouts were risk-takers by leaving their parents for two nights. It was hard for some of them, but they ended-up having so much fun. They will be spending their 2019 cookie proceeds on camp again this year!

Brownies “byte” into cybersecurity at girl-led badge day

Girl Scout Brownies from Colorado Springs had a blast learning all about cybersecurity at a badge workshop hosted by Troop 43810.

The Cadettes and Seniors of Troop 43810 planned, organized, and held the workshop for Brownies to earn all three cybersecurity badges in a fun, active way. Dozens of Girl Scout Brownies got to play a life-sized board game, crack real life codes, and learn about their real and digital fingerprints.

The go-getters of Troop 43810 are using the funds from the event for national and international travel plans!

Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors: Explore your world at Tomahawk Ranch

Brownies and Juniors come join us for a traveling adventure camp Around the World in Two Days! The Ambassadors of Troop 78527 have planned lots of fun activities for you to explore different places around the world. Break away from the winter doldrums and enjoy three days and two nights camping in comfy heated cabins at Tomahawk Ranch Girl Scout Camp near Bailey.

This fun-filled camp will start the evening of Friday, January 25, 2019 and end after breakfast on Sunday,January 27. Our troop has traveled internationally to Belize and want to inspire your girls to go on an adventure where ever that may be so pack your bags and join us!

Price is $100 per girl and $55 per adult. Girls will get fun patch. Registration deadline is January 7, 2019.

Troops must meet safety-wise ratios. Adults over safety-wise ratios must pay girl rate.

Cybersecurity field trip

Brownie Troop 65575 took a field trip to the Apple Store at Flatirons Mall and earned their “Cybersecurity Basics” and “Cybersecurity Safeguard” badges. They learned about the internet and the importance of protecting themselves online.

At their next meeting, the Brownies expanded on the things they learned by working together to design castles. The girls had very imaginative ideas of ways to protect their castles and we talked about why it’s important to protect themselves online.

We’re excited to dig deeper into cybersecurity when they earn their “Cybersecurity Investigator” badge!

Daisies and Brownies work on badges at Children’s Museum of Denver

Troop 65742 visited the Children’s Museum of Denver earlier this month to work on a variety of badges, patches, Journeys, etc. Girl Scouts were able to do many activities toward their various “Superhero” patches and “Science” Journeys, such as cooking, fire trucks, science (bubbles and balls), break dancing, vet role play, camping/wilderness role play, climbing the tower, etc. We had a blast and everyone learned aspects of teamwork.

Brownies journey through Wonderland

On November 3, 2018, 32 Brownies from seven different troops took the marvelous “Journey Through Wonderland,” hosted by Troop 70700 of Berthoud. The Cadettes designed, organized, and led this “Journey in a Day,” with whimsical activities based on Lewis Carroll’s original story.

The Brownies earned their “World of Girls” Journey by telling their own stories, practicing teamwork, getting creative, and making healthy choices.

They topped off the day by creating Kindness Cards to distribute in their own communities as a Take Action project. Imagining what would happen if the Queen of Hearts sent her card soldiers to spread kindness, each Brownie will share their Kindness Cards in their own communities.

While the Brownies said they loved all the activities of the day, the favorites were definitely the Mad Hatter Hat Station and Caterpillar teamwork challenge.

Each station was designed and led by Cadettes, who worked through the challenges of planning the event and gained confidence in their own leadership abilities.

Brownies learn the importance of cybersecurity and STEM

The internet and media are a daily part of our Girl Scouts’ lives and we felt it was important to arm them with the knowledge and understanding of how to stay safe while engaging with these sources. This is why we selected to pursue the cybersecurity badges and patches for our troop! Please enjoy the story about defending our castles, but tread carefully, you may find an alligator, a bear trap, or a grenade disguised as candy…

One high-energy afternoon, a bunch of Girl Scouts in Troop 65709
eagerly awaited the starting tune to learn how to keep themselves safe
in cyberland, all while running a race from alligators, bears, and secret predators.

They brainstormed and created elaborate defenses to keep out enemies pretenses, creating trap doors, moats, secret entrances, invisible castles, and candy tricks.

They discussed and debated the best shields and learned how it related to keeping them safe in daily practice fields.

These G.I.R.L.s are armed and ready to take on the world and be safe when it comes to cyberland!

The girls came up with very creative ideas on defending their castles, family, and friends. They learned about how to layer defenses and how that relates to online defenses with passwords and safeguards they use every day. It was a great start to arming them with the knowledge to keep themselves safe while online! Our troop is pursing the cybersecurity trifecta of badges: Basics, Safeguards, and Investigator.
