Spare a Book event

Submitted by Meredith Locke

Metro Denver

Lafayette

Come join us for bowling fun with your troop or family! We want everyone to have a good time and bring a book to donate. Literacy is important to all school age kids and should be accessible to them. The books you bring will be given to a local Title 1 school. Kids in these school don’t have as much access to what many other schools in the district have. Without exposure to the same materials, they won’t be quite as prepared to go into middle school and that may transfer to high school and the rest of their lives. With the help of everyone donating picture books and books for kids in second – fifth grades, we’ll be able to impact a few kids’ lives. This simple act of donating a book can help them tremendously. Helping people out is what our troop strives to do and you can help us help these kids advance and grow!

Please join us on March 17, 2019 for a great cause!

Time: 2 – 4 p.m.

Place: Chippers Lanes, 100 Nickel St, Broomfield, CO

Price: $15 per person + $2.50 for a specially designed patch

Please bring a picture book or chapter book for second – fifth graders (one per person)

To register, follow this link: https://bowling-party-event.cheddarup.com

Calling all book lovers

Submitted by Children’s Festival of Stories

Metro Denver

Denver

Love reading?

Want to meet some of your favorite children’s book authors?

Join our volunteer efforts and you will assist in our mission of promoting literacy, celebrating children’s books, and sharing the joys of reading – AND you could engage with some of today’s most beloved children’s authors and illustrators – there are over 40 coming to our festival!

Our day-long FREE public event will feature national, regional, and local authors of board books, picture books, chapter books and middle reader books. The festival will include book signings, panel discussions and activities developed for kiddos aged to about 12 years.

This kind of event needs LOTS OF HELPING HANDS and we’re hoping Girls Scouts will jump at the chance! As a volunteer, you might be the personal assistant for one of our authors, help some of the little kiddos make their very own bookmark or perhaps guide some of our guests around the festival making sure everyone gets to enjoy the activities. There will also be a special performance by The Story Bakers – a professional acting troupe who will perform stories written by a school child; that story could even be something you write – look for details here – https://www.denvercfos.com/submit-a-story

We’d love to have you join us for this important day. You might even find some other girls who will want to join YOU in Girl Scouts!

Please contact us as soon as possible with questions OR to let us know that you are happy to help us show everyone that READING IS FUN!
