National Girl and Women in Sports Day with CU Women’s Basketball

We had a great day with CU’s Women’s Basketball celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day recently!  CU Athletics hosted a pre-game celebration where girls met players from various CU Women’s teams and got to try their hand at some fun sports.

Girl Scouts enjoyed skills stations hosted by CU’s Women’s Athletic teams. Girls learned about Soccer, Lacrosse, Cheerleading, and more!

One of the big highlights was an autograph session with CU Women Athletes! Over 200 people lined up for to meet team members and get autographs. Many were our Girl Scouts who traveled across the Front Range to join the fun!

Our Girl Scouts and families enjoyed the game and cheered on the CU Buffs to a 76-66 victory over the Oregon Ducks!

A BIG than you goes to Cassandra McCulley and CU Athletics for hosting such a great opportunity for our Girl Scouts!

Check out these great upcoming events!

March 12 – Girl Scout Night with the Colorado Mammoth, Denver, 7 p.m. $22/person for upper level ticket. Colorado Mammoth vs. Vancouver Stealth. Come early and watch the field conversion from a hockey rink to the Lacrosse field. Tickets can be purchased here. Tickets can be purchased here. April 8 – Girl Scout Aviation Day with the Colorado 99’s, Centennial Airport. Our Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts will learn about Aviation, Aerodynamics, and weather from the Colorado 99’s and tour airplanes. The Colorado 99’s are a women’s pilot association connecting women and girls to the aviation field. Interested in learning more or volunteering at the event? Let me know and I’ll be happy to visit more!

April 23 – Daisy Flower Garden Journey at the Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver, Daisies. We’ll host over 200 Daisy Girl Scouts at the Denver Botanic Garden as they learn about the Girl Scout Promise and Law through the Daisy Flower Garden Journey. This is a great event to volunteer at and experience first-hand what a Girl Scout program is. And Daisies…well, they are so cute!! Volunteers lead crafts, games, and story-time activities and can choose a morning or afternoon session. Come volunteer and enjoy the Botanic Garden free either before or after your volunteer shift! GSCO Staff Tour CU Champions Center

Submitted by Lori Thompson

Boulder

The University of Colorado Athletic Department staff recently hosted GSCO staff for a tour of CU’s Champions Center. The center is the home for CU Football, Athletic Offices, and CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center. The center opened earlier this year and features state of the art work out facilities, football team locker room, and lounge. There are also historic displays featuring team trophies and uniforms as well as event space with lovely views of the Flat Irons.

GSCO staff was onsite to visit about upcoming Girl Scout winter events with CU Basketball. We’re making plans with both CU Women’s and Men’s basketball teams, so Girl Scouts will have a chance to see two CU games this year. Plans for our game with CU Women’s Basketball are coming soon. Save the date for Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 for Girl Scout Night with CU Men’s Basketball. Plans for both games will include a special ticket deal for Girl Scout troops and families and additional fun Girl Scout activities to be announced. For more information, please contact Lori Thompson at lori.thompson@gscolorado.org.

A big thank you goes to CU Athletic Department staff for a great tour and for coordinating our upcoming winter Girl Scout events!
