The GrowHaus is a nonprofit indoor farm, marketplace, and educational center in Denver’s Elyria-Swansea neighborhood. Their vision is a world where all communities have the means to nourish themselves, and their mission is to create a community-driven, neighborhood-based food system by serving as a hub for food distribution, production, education, and economic opportunity.

Girl Scout Juniors are invited to attend an experiential education workshop at The GrowHaus that includes hands on activities to engage girls in topics surrounding soil and worms, healthy eating, and community! Service work in the educational greenhouse space is included and partial requirements toward the “Junior Gardener” badge will be met.

Adults and troop leaders are invited to attend with girls and must sign up to attend. This is not a drop-off event, all girls must attend with a parent, guardian, or troop leader. Adult to girl safety ratios for events must be met (http://gscoblog.org/volunteer-essentials/safety-wise/). Girls attending with a troop leader must bring completed parent permission forms for a Girl Scout activity (https://www.girlscoutsofcolorado.org/content/dam/girlscoutsofcolorado/documents/Parent%20Permission%20for%20Girl%20Scout%20Activity.pdf) that troop leaders should retain for their records.

Everyone attending must bring a completed and signed liability waiver on the day of the workshop. The waivers are available in both English (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sIpaoGlhP2B2aV4Skf2AVeNTAy3dqhlz/view?usp=sharing) and Spanish (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1s7mMROeTw9b19KtuqN_c9qTZz8Huvhgo/view?usp=sharing). Birth date and student ID number do not need to be completed.

Join us Monday, October 9, 2017 from 5 – 7 p.m. at The GrowHaus (https://www.thegrowhaus.org/) for a program, tour, and hands-on service project at their indoor farm. Learn about food networks, nutrition, and local farming. Cost is $7 per Girl Scout. There are 12 spots available.

Senior Troop 1096 is working on their “Sow What” Journey and arranged a field trip to The GrowHaus, which has worked with GSCO in the past. The tour can accommodate 20 Girl Scouts and we only need eight slots, so we want to open this opportunity to other troops or Juliettes.
