SHR Fall Olympics Rendezvous – camp with your troop!

Each year, Girl Scouts of Colorado summer camps host several programs for troops and families. One of those is called a Rendezvous. A Rendezvous is a weekend troop camp at one of our overnight camps (Sky High Ranch or Tomahawk Ranch) where an older troop learns valuable leadership skills while leading camp activities for younger troops. This Rendezvous is your next Troop Camp opportunity:

Sky High Ranch Fall Olympics
September 30 6pm through October 2 11am (Friday dinner through Sunday  brunch)

“Welcome to the Sky High Ranch Fall Olympics Rendezvous! Girls and adults will be divided into 5 countries representing each of the 5 Olympic rings. There will be opening and closing ceremonies, an Olympic torch, medals and other Olympic traditions. The activities will include various summer and winter Olympic sports, often modified in silly and unusual ways. Because this Rendezvous is in late September, the weather is difficult to predict. SHR is a rustic facility so please be prepared to share a cabin with another troop and dress for the weather!”

Register now for this exciting event!

All troops in attendance must have two unrelated adult Girl Scout volunteer approved chaperones. One adult must have attended Overnight Training, and one must have current CPR and First Aid certifications.

Sky High Ranch Fall Rendezvous: Blue Moon Harvest, Sept. 25-27, 2015

Come to Sky High Ranch for our Blue Moon Harvest Rendezvous! The Celebration will include Glow in the Dark Archery, a Harvest Festival Dance (bring your own costume or borrow one of ours!), a visit to the farm, Zip line for groups with girls 60 Lbs. and over (or low-ropes for groups that have girls under 60 Lbs.), and crafts, such as seed mosaics, fun with paints and pumpkins, felt owls, etc.

This is a great opportunity for troops as we provide all the food and program, all you have to do is show up!  Activities will be flexible due to weather (late September is anyone’s guess) so be prepared!

Do you have a Cadette troop looking to earn their Program Aide Internship hours or Silver Award? Rendezvous are a perfect opportunity for girls to plan and run program under the guidance of Sky High or Tomahawk staff. Contact Kim.petau@gscolorado.org or Monica.gray@gscolorado.org for more information.

“Frozen” Fun at Magic Sky Ranch Rendezvous

The snow* was flying and fun abounded as everyone was a happy snowman at the Frozen-themed Rendezvous at Magic Sky Ranch this weekend.

Troops from across the state enjoyed meals at Arendelle, activities at the North Mountain, and met new friends as a part of Oaken, Pabbie, Kristoff, Olaf, Sven, Elsa, and Anna groups.

Even the weather was in the spirit of Frozen as we had fog roll in Friday night to help us enjoy a chilly August night in the mountains.

During the day, girls were able to make their own fire crystals, snow globes, snow cones, ice castles, travel across Marshmallow’s ice berg challenges, journey to the lake, and even build their own snowman (out of their leaders!). *This is where all the extra “snow” (TP) came from that was then enjoyed to make snow fall and snow angels inside.

Saturday night campfire was an all-out sing along to favorite camp and frozen songs, and the weekend wrapped up with SWAPS and farewells.

A special thank you to the staff who helped make the weekend possible: Ash, Houdini, Kodiak, Lady Bug, Piglet, Princess Pat, Socks, Usagi, as well as registration support – Stephanie and Maya.

And a big thank you to all the Troops who attended the event: 14275, 50516, 50546, 52254, 52319, 52696, 53972, 54071, 54185, 60447, 64143, 64626, 71363, 74404, 74447.

We look forward to seeing everyone at future Girl Scout events, and wish you a happy school year!

“Reduce Reuse Recycle” Rendezvous at Magic Sky Ranch

recycled journals3

making lanyard medallions2

cement tile stepping stones2

cans to pencil holders2It was a green rendezvous weekend at Magic Sky Ranch – for Girl Scout week, for St. Patrick’s Day, and most of all – for Reduce Reuse Recycle!
Troop 334 were the “Super Heroes” who planned and ran the weekend. Attending troops learned how to repurpose a tin can into a pencil holder. They were able to create earth friendly cement and tile stepping stones to take home. They reduced the number of broken crayons by reusing them and making crayon trees (because trees are green too). They recycled pop can tabs into medallion lanyards for themselves during the weekend. They also learned about recycled materials, and went on a litter scavenger hunt. And they created journals from all recycled materials – a great place to keep their memories from this green weekend.
Thanks to Troop 334 for being the “Super Heroes (complete with custom designed capes!) who designed the weekend. You all are the super heroes to the troops who attended. And thanks to the troops who came – Troop 2844, 540 and 1352 (our WY neighbors!). You all are super heroes to the planet for learning to Reduce Reuse Recycle!

A Knight’s (Winter) Life at Magic Sky Ranch

DSC05202 DSC05214 DSC05225 DSC05246 DSCN0955The February 22-24 Junior Rendezvous at Magic Sky Ranch started with the “Knight Life” theme – all things castles, queens, jesters, and jousting. The weather added a new element – SNOW!

Troops 73582, 73131, 50986 – along with the planning troop 71106 (GECCCOs) enjoyed creating a Knight Life at MSR including learning new plate spinning skills, jingling with new bells, masks, and playing games to please the queen (whomever was in the red & gold dress). Even though the storm cut the weekend short – it will be a long time before anyone forgets the Knight’s (winter) Life Rendezvous at Magic Sky Ranch!
Thanks so much to the GECCCOs for planning and running another great weekend.
Thanks so much to the troops who attended.
Thanks to everyone for your flexibility and enjoyment of the (much needed) snow, and to all the MSR staff – for food, plowing and support!
