This was our first time selling Girl Scout Cookies as a troop. The girls each met and exceeded their goals! The girls chose to donate their Hometown Hero cookies to the West Metro Fire District at station 15, and also toured the fire station and learned about what to do if there is a fire in their home. We then went to Murdoch’s to purchase food and other items for the animals at the South Platte Humane Society. We plan to deliver them at a later time.
Way to go Nellie and Sydney for helping deliver our 180 packages of Girl Scout Cookies to Project Angel Heart, our Hometown Heroes! Thank goodness they had a cart we could use after we carried in the first load. Project Angel Heart will give the cookies to their clients and share some with the volunteers. As a bonus, we decorated bags for their deliveries to clients, which we learned are sometimes hung as works of art around their volunteer room.
They gave us a tour and we learned a little more about them as an organization. They started in 1991 delivering nutritious meals to 12 people with life threatening illnesses and have grown to deliver to over 12,000 weekly. They were very appreciative!
Troop 65644 delivered Girl Scout Cookies to our Hometown Heroes at Denver Fire Station #16. They have been there several times for one of our girls and what a treat to get a tour of the fire station!
Our troop of Brownies voted on a charity or foundation to help with the money they earned from selling Girl Scout Cookies. The girls agreed on Broomfield/Adam’s County CASA to help the children in our communities. Great job girls!
Daisy/Brownie Troop 43483 in Colorado Springs was excited to deliver Hometown Hero cookies to the teachers and support staff at Evans International Elementary School (EIES), where they attend and hold weekly meetings. This troop of 18 girls sold over 5,800 packages of cookies and collected enough donations to give 161 packages to the staff.
The girls chose the school staff because “they keep us safe,” “they are kind,” “they teach us,” and “they love us.” This decision followed the girls’ completion of the Brownie Quest Journey where they took action to address safety concerns in their school community.
The troop presented their cookie donation to an appreciative EIES staff on 3/17/17.
A couple years ago, we heard that W.O.L.F. Sanctuary (near Ft. Collins) was hit by the High Park Fire. Some of their structures were damaged, but thanks to the amazing work by the W.O.L.F. crew, the wolves were all safely evacuated.
Then, last year, the sanctuary was damaged by the floods. Again, the wolves were safe, but the property was damaged.
As a Boulder troop, we wanted to choose a Hometown Hero who had been impacted by the flooding that had impacted so many of us. And as animal lovers, the girls voted to nominate W.O.L.F. We were so excited when the sanctuary not only accepted our nomination, they also invited us up to visit!
The girls of Junior Troop 2971 piled into the car and made the journey (2 hours each way – and the excitement kept our energy up the whole way) on April 27.
We were introduced to the brilliant volunteers of the sanctuary, who then introduced us to all the residents! We learned about the sad tales that brought most of these guys to the sanctuary and the importance of leaving wild animals wild. These wolves have come to Colorado because people thought they could have them as pets – but wolves just don’t make good pets.
We also learned that wolves like Girl Scout cookies!! Isabeau couldn’t get enough of the trefoils. And we got to pet the ambassador wolves, Bella and Rajan and feed Pax some treats.
Troop 2971 thanks everyone who bought cookies from us this season, making this trip possible. We also thank W.O.L.F. for an amazing day. The girls want to let everyone know that you can learn more about W.O.L.F. by visiting http://www.wolfsanctuary.net and you can learn about how to help W.O.L.F. move to a new location that will better serve their needs by visiting http://www.gofundme.com/754aqs
The girls of Troop 3422 in Colorado Springs earned their Bronze award by collecting art supplies at their school for the Boys and Girls Club’s afterschool program. The Club was also their Hometown Hero, so the children at the club will be enjoying some cookies while they use their new art supplies. Well done girls!
