Food Drive for Local Food Bank

Submitted by Ayse Bergh

Troop 77053 researched a service project for our community. There were many options available. Our local food bank sent out messages on social media. They were really short on certain foods. Our troop jumped into action to serve this need. First, we spread the word and set up collections. Second, we collected and delivered, and finally by using some of the troop money to purchase foods that did not show up in the collection. This is a work in progress.

We want to hear how your girl is using her Girl Scout skills by taking initiative, caring for the community, and Girl Scouting at home. She can send in her story here.

Superior Girl Scout troop hosts food drive this Saturday

Submitted by The Masked Narwhals
Our troop of 5th graders has planned a food drive this Saturday, August 8th, for Sister Carmen Community Center in Boulder County.
Please view and share our video about the food drive, and donate if you can!
You can find more info about the food drive at sites.google.com/view/GSFoodDrive, and more about Sister Carmen and other ways to donate at SisterCarmen.org.
Our troop has been meeting weekly in Zoom since the shutdown in March. After planning the food drive and video, girls recorded audio and video and created pictures individually. We used FlipGrid and a Google form to submit our creations, and WeVideo to edit them together.
This project concludes our Agent of Change Journey.
Next up: Finishing our Outdoor Journey, then planning and carrying out a Bronze Award project. Thanks for your support!

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 3450 puts community first during the holidays

[slideshow]

From Dacharie Luke

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 3450 of Highlands Ranch sponsored the Holiday Giving Tree at their school, Bear Canyon Elementary. The girls decided to host a food drive and donate all items collected to the Food Bank of the Rockies. The kick off began Nov. 14th when the troop practiced their communications skills with a scavenger hunt, asking the nearby neighborhood for food donations. Then the girls put together a great month-long campaign at their school, which included a bulletin board, decorating the holiday tree and advertising using school newsletters and e-mails. Collection efforts were just as ambitious and included early morning curbside collections as parents dropped off their kids at school. The end result was impressive as the troop collected 1,172+ pounds of food in just a matter of four weeks. This was the first opportunity for these third graders to take on a project of this size and what a difference they made for their community!
