More than 40 girls in grades 6-12 from Western Colorado gathered on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Colorado Mesa University for “Secrets to Success.” This annual event gives girls the unique opportunity to connect with professional women in a variety of career fields in a speed-dating format, giving them a unique opportunity to learn directly from incredible women. Girls personally engaged with more than 20 women leaders in the fields of technology, law, healthcare, finance, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and more, learning from role models that will help them become our future business and community leaders. This event joined today’s leaders with the next generation, to share their expertise and provide inspiration for success. The event’s keynote speaker, Kristen McGee, Lecturer of Business with Colorado Mesa University spoke to the girls about first impressions and positivity.
While girls attended the event, their parents and caregivers attended a Colorado Mesa University tour, scholarships workshop by Jana Thomas with Wild Peace, and a workshop on helping their student find work after graduation by Barbara Traylor Smith with Retirement Outfitters.
The professional women were excited to share their experiences and most said they wished they had had this when they were young. Caregivers also commented on how informative everything was and they want to come back next year. One parent, whose daughter has attended this event three times now, said her daughter learns something new every year. She loves the fact that the women change each year.
A special thanks to Alpine Bank and Colorado Mesa University, and KREX/Fox5 and KKCO-TV for covering the event and sharing the story with their viewers.
