Troop 65685 participated in Girl Scouts of Colorado’s Day of Service in January 2021 with a variety of different service projects. Sydney H. hosted a bake sale to benefit St. Jude’s Hospital. She sent out an email to her neighbors explaining her project.

“I think this is super important to the American society because living in a world without cancer is important. Think about it, cancer destroys all different species and it would be nice for this to go away. One of the main reasons is we could lose the amount of deaths each year we have of this disease. In this article it states, ‘Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in American children, resulting in the death of approximately 1,800 kids each year.’ I will be doing a bake sale with two options up for grabs: snickerdoodles and chocolate chip cookies.” – Sydney H.

Our Brownies and Daisies got together on Zoom to create dog biscuits and cat toys for the SPCA. The girls worked on their overhand knots with felt and made yummy treats for the dogs!

Troop 61359 spent some time on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day cleaning up the local streets! After cleaning, they wrote some awesome messages in chalk to make neighbors smile while out and about! Girls in this fabulous troop won’t let anything stop them from helping others and leading the way.

Troop 67254 Community Clean-Up

Several of our girls spent their Monday afternoon celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day by spreading love in our community. Girls from our troop went out and took pride in their community by picking up trash. They practiced social distancing by dividing and conquering. Girls proudly wore their Girl Scout Junior vests,  face masks, and disposable gloves, as well as carried trash bags. One of our Juniors headed to Cottonwood Creek Elementary School with her younger Daisy sister and led her in a trash pick-up effort. She let her younger sister get the bigger “better” pieces of trash that had blown around the school yard. Another Junior took a nice hike with her younger brother to pickup trash around the Cherry Creek Reservoir. Thankfully, they didn’t find much trash. Another Junior picked up cigarette butts and trash in her neighborhood common area. At the end, the girls took pride in knowing they did their small part to make their community better.

Our girls showed their Girl Scout spirit and definitely exude the Girl Scout Law. While other kids were out playing, our girls took time to make a difference in their community and a couple even mentored their younger siblings. There is nothing glamorous about picking up trash, but they felt a great sense of accomplishment when they were done cleaning the areas they had concentrated on. As a parent and Girl Scout leader, I’m so proud of our small, but mighty Junior Troop 67254.
