Brownie Troop 61636 of Thornton took a little road trip over the weekend down to Colorado Springs. Our destination? Rita’s Italian Ice where we earned our Snacks badge and had an absolute BLAST with the staff!
An hour before they were set to open, we arrived for our behind-the- scenes tour with “Syd,” the store manager. The girls got cleaned up, read the recipe, measured everything out, mixed it, watched as it was poured into the machine, then went back out front for some taste testing while it became Cherry Italian Ice!
The taste-testing was an added bonus! The Cookie Dough Italian Ice was a popular request amongst our troop. The girls also got to slurp down a favorite amongst the Rita’s customers: Mango Italian Ice blended with Vanilla Frozen Custard!
Once the Cherry Italian Ice was completed and stored, Syd was sweet enough to let the girls know that if they served that batch later in the day, they’d be sure to let the customers know that Girl Scouts made it.
After, our troop decided to use some of our cookie money to buy a frozen treat and some awesome Rita’s Italian Ice shirts!
